OGSA Best Show On Dirt

6:45 AM SUNDAY—Unfortunately we need to cancel the remainder of the Best Show on Dirt Tournament due to weather and field conditions. I will be in touch with teams with more information via email later today. Thank you for supporting OGSA Softball.

8:00 PM--Rain Update 3--We have updated the schedules. Pool games that were still needed to accurately seed a bracket and avoid possible built in ties were moved to Sunday morning.  Bracket games have been updated.  All games tomorrow will be a 1 hour time limit.  Please check your Pool Schedules and your Bracket schedules.  We will update the weather line and app by 7am in the morning.

Rain Update 2--Due to the continuing rain and lightning the tournament will not play any more games Saturday night. We will work on an updated schedule for Sunday.  Please check back for more updates after 7pm.

Rain Update 1--The 4:30pm games are official and will be entered with the score that the games were at when called.  All games had reached the necessary amount of innings and/or minutes played to make the games official.

WELCOME TO THE BEST SHOW ON DIRT

CASH ONLY - $6 = Adults and $3 Seniors and Kids 13-18 Under 12 FREE

Weather Line: 816-222-0076 OR download the App at rainoutline.com and search for USA Softball of Kansas City

CHECK IN--Reminder all teams must check in before your first game at the office across from the rest rooms.  At that time we will verify USA Registration, Insurance, and Coach Background Checks and Safesport certification. Coaches will also pay at the gate and bring up to 3 gate passes all at once, in order to be reimbursed and receive your coaches passes for the weekend.  This must occur on Saturday.

Teams--The Pool Schedule is now posted. Since 12B was originally going to only be 1 day with 3 teams, we stayed with the 1 day format for 12B when we picked up a 4th team.  The 12B Bracket will be posted soon but those games will occur Saturday evening.

The pool names for the "Best Show on Dirt" tournament come from the team names of the National Girls Baseball League (NGBL).  The league was co-founded by Charles Bidwill, Ed Kolski and Emery Parichy; all teams were owned by Parichy and based in and around the greater Chicago, Illinois metropolitan area (games were played in Chicago, Des Plaines, Evanston, Forest Park and North Chicago).

The NGBL was a professional league that operated from 1944 to 1954 and was a direct competitor to the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League (AAGPBL, 1943-1954).  The primary difference between the AAGPBL and the NGBL is the NGBL retained the traditional underhand softball pitching format and used a twelve inch ball.

The teams were as follows:
• Bloomer Girls (1944-1954)
• Bluebirds (1944-1954)
• Kandy Kids/Queens (1944-1954)
• Chicks/Rock-Olas/Belles (1944-1952)
• Sparks/Cardinals/Checashers (1944-1952)
• Music Maids/Maids (1945-1953)
• All-Stars/Jewels (1954)

The NGBL is the subject of a documentary, "Their Turn at Bat: The Story of the National Girls Baseball League".
